I Found Love On a Online Dating Site

Over the past few years, I discovered a few personality traits about myself that I wanted to change. When it comes to relationships I have had a hard time changing. I am stubborn. And, I don’t like change. Sometimes, when you are set in your ways, change is hard.

Finding love has always been hard for me. I think I had found that special woman that I will wanted to spend the rest of my life with, but then the bubble would burst. I discovered that what I wanted from the relationship and what I actually had was vastly different. Probably my expectations were too high. I just wanted love, to be loved and to share my life with a special person. The women I tend to fall in love with tend to have different ideas. Some of the women wanted to be supported, some seemed to just want a friend and then some really didn’t know what they really want.

I found that I tended to stay in the relationship too long. I didn’t leave when I knew I should. I did this because I always had hoped that the relationship would change for the better. I had discovered that this is a false hope and never got better.

My problem is that I am was easy. What people call a pushover. It probably is a combination of low self esteem, shyness and having a really easy personality. I try to take life in stride. Even though I think I know what is happening, it is still really easy to take advantage of me.

My love life had gotten so bad that after my last relationship I decided I never wanted another relationship again. I was finished with this search that I have been told from childhood. It was the fantasy that I must seek and find the right woman to share a life with, to support and take care of. I came to believe that that was “garbage” advice. I would take care of these woman buy they never gave back to me.

But, Internet dating helped me slowly understand and change my personality traits. I registered with a few online dating sites that I had researched on Google and found on dating site directories. I did not go to to the big boys, like eHarmony or Match. I stayed with the smaller sites, to learn and get comfortable with this new form of finding a companion.

I first started with a dating site, which is now out of business, because it had a forum area. In the evenings after work I would go and log into the forum to meet new people. I met both men and woman and many had similar experiences to me. I felt comfortable, because, I was anonymous, and could make myself known only when I wanted. I guess this is the shyness in me. I then moved onto another site I found on Google and sounded fun. It turned out to be a good decision.

I found a community of people with similar interests that I quickly started to make friends with. I also was able to find friends in my local city and we started to hang out. We occassionally as a group would meet in restaurants and other times meet for drinks. It was a comfortable setting for me and a lot of fun.

Well, about 3 months after joining the dating site forum, I met a woman that seemed to share similar interests as myself. We made each other laugh and actually we both were in no hurry to meet face to face. We were having so much fun on the internet with each other we were afraid it wouldn’t last if we met face to face. This went on for 7 months until I got up the nerve to invite her out to one of our groups get-togethers at a local restaurant.

To my surprise meeting her in person for the first time was like meeting someone I always knew. It was a very comfortable feeling to meet someone the first time, but know all about her because we had been conversing on the forum for so long.

Well, to make a long story short, we went out with the group a few more times before deciding to go it alone by ourselves. It has been 2 years with this wonderful woman and I have never been happier. It took me 30 years to find the woman of my dreams. And, I am very happy.

Without the internet and doing some life searching and changing some of my personality traits, I don’t know if I would have ever had the courage to really search for happiness.

Music of Nature

An ancient Chinese philosopher, Zhuangzi, was known as a founder of Taoism. His philosophy was written in a form of fables. These stories contain profound wisdom of life, truth in nature, and a way of thinking. Many of them are useful to us who are living more than 200 years later than his age. Here is one of the interesting stories.

One day, Zhuangzi was meditating, folding his legs crossed. He looked unconscious. He appeared to be not feeling anything. He looked almost dead. One of his students walked close to him, meditating. Worried, this student asked Zhuangzi if he was okay. The student needed to shout into his ears to bring him back to consciousness. Asked again what he was doing, Zhuangzi answered that he was listening and enjoying music of nature. “Music of nature?” the student asked again, puzzled. The student had never heard of it.

The master then explained to his student. All nature’s activities have scenes, colors, smells, shapes, and music. If wind blows through a forest, it creates sounds. When a flower blooms, it gives out a sound. The sound of birds flying, a bug buzzing, a dog barking, or even human footsteps form music of nature.

The master continued. The interesting thing is that this music of nature can be heard not by the people who can hear sound, but by the people who are willing to listen to the sound. It is a message from nature. It alerts people about the coming storm. It reminds people the spring is near. It tells them that the next day will be rainy.

If one is not willing to listen to this music, it is just sound, and may be taken as noise. However, the music of nature always gives meaning to those who are willing to listen and take it seriously. The master asked the student if he had seen the color of the wind.

This story is nothing specific for people who do not feel something from it and try to pick up on its meaning. It took me a long time to understand that this story was more meaningful than it seemed when I first read it. The story teaches us that we can pick up messages from nature if we are willing to receive them. It might not be only about the nature. If you are willing to listen to music or a message from nature, society, a market, or any of our surroundings, you will be surprised what there is to learn. There may be messages that bring you success, or perhaps for a happy and peaceful life.

Oven Mitts

What is it about oven mitts that everyone is so crazy about? It seems that every household has at least a couple of them hanging around. Typically, they are found near the stove area in the kitchen. Sometimes, they are near their cousins, the “pot holder”. After discovering these above facts, I decided to research this wonderful little item so that others may share in the enlightenment.

Then I decided against it, as it turns out the research would involve exposing oneself to metallic kitchen utensils of uncomfortably high temperatures. But after mulling it over further, I finally decided to go ahead and continue my research for the betterment of humanity. So I went down to the local Oven Mitts R Us big box store and was able to find out many interesting and useful things about oven them that, for some inexplicable reason, no one had bothered to find out before.

Thank God for me. Here are a few interesting things I learned about oven mitts and their cousins, the pot holders, that I am going to share with you right now. Unlikable Titular Characters in Shakespeare: Hamlet, Macbeth and Othello

William Shakespeare seemed to have had a propensity for unlikable titular characters. Many of his plays, particularly the tragedies, were named for selfish, indecisive, vengeful, or otherwise just unpleasant men. It’s difficult to enjoy a work of literature or theater when the protagonist is unappealing, but plays like Hamlet, Macbeth and Othello have endured for centuries.

Hamlet, Prince of Denmark, starts off sympathetically; his father the king has recently died and Hamlet has good reason (if you can consider the word of a ghost “good reason”) to believe that his mother and uncle (who, by the way, has married his mother shortly after his father’s death) planned his father’s murder. He is charged to seek vengeance for this wrongdoing, but is unsure of how to act. And is unsure of how to act. And is unsure of how to act. Does he kill his uncle Claudius? Does he kill his mother? Does he kill himself? It’s this dilemma that inspires his famous soliloquy (and what’s probably the most famous of the Hamlet quotes) “to be or not to be.”

Othello (the Moor), while also unlikable, is very different from Hamlet. He begins the play as a relatively pleasant character; and a modern reader may be inclined to sympathize with him based on her distaste for any racism she may detect in the other characters. He seems like a strong solider, loving husband, good friend. But soon, his right-hand man Iago casts doubt into Othello’s mind about the very innocent friendship between his wife Desdemona and a young up-and-comer named Cassio. Othello’s unable to look past his jealousy and ultimately suffocates his wife in their own bed, just about eliminating any goodwill he had earned from the audience earlier in the play.

And then there’s Macbeth. Quick Macbeth summary: Like Othello, he distinguishes himself on the battlefield and returns home to Scotland as a hero and all-around beloved guy. Then thinks take a slightly Oedipal turn. Macbeth receives a prophesy from three witches (more on them later) that will eventually be made King of Scotland. Unlike Oedipus, Macbeth likes this prophecy and doesn’t do his best to make it not come true. In fact, when he tells his wife about the prophecy, she immediately begins plotting the king’s death. Conveniently enough, the king is planning to stay with the Macbeths shortly after they make that decision and Lady Macbeth successfully emasculates her husband until he does the deed.

He only gets more unlikable from there. Apparently, once he realized he was capable of murder, he figured what’s the harm in killing a few more people? Eventually he becomes so obsessed with himself and his power that he can’t even be bothered to mourn his own wife, who was driven to suicide by her extreme guilt. He utters one of the most influential Macbeth quotes, “full of sound and fury; signifying nothing” as he’s essentially claiming that his wife’s suicide is coming at a really bad time for him, and while William Faulkner may have found those words inspiring, they fall a little flat for the average person.
